Oboe/English Horn
Hailing from Fort Wayne, Indiana, Nik Flickinger recently completed his Master’s in Oboe Performance degree at Arizona State University. Nik is currently the second oboe player of the Mesa Symphony Orchestra, and beginning this fall Nik will assume the position of principal oboe of the Musica Nova Orchestra. Before Arizona, Nik attended the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music, where he received his Bachelor’s degree.
Nikolaus’s previous performance experiences have been with Phoenix Symphony, the West Valley Symphony, Mesa Symphony, Musica Nova, Foothills Community Opera program, CCM Philharmonia, CCM Concert Orchestra, the Brevard Music Center Orchestra, Starling Chamber Music Orchestra, and the Ars Nova Quintet. He has also attended the summer music festivals of Sarasota, Banff, Alberta, Brevard, La Domaine Forget, Quebec, and the Opera Music Theater festival of Lucca, Italy.
The primary teachers of Nik have included Martin Schuring, Mark Ostoich, Paige Morgan, and Joan Wright. He has also studied with the likes of Nancy Ambrose King, Neil Black, Allan Vogel, Eric Ohhlson, Linda Strommen, Elaine Douvas, and Richard Hawley. He has attended and participated in many masterclasses of John Mack, Hansjorg Schellenberger, Joseph Robinson, and Nicholas Daniel.
Nikolaus Flickinger has taught as the primary oboe teacher at East Walnut Hills high school, Cincinnati, and Campbell County Schools, Alexandria, Kentucky, and enjoys his wonderful private students.
